A new series "Trace_AUGMENTED" is currently in progress.
I navigate through the journey of my life with my own free will. However, I cannot help but to feel that each moment and event in this journey seems to present itself in an intelligent and intentional manner.
I am only to see the true meaning and the role of an event after a long while has passed and after realizing where the particular event has lead me to.
This is why the idea of the past plays a very present role in this journey.
In a way, many of the past events seem to be still progressing in the form of present according to an intent besides mine.
The purpose in my work is to trace out a vision in my past, and accumulated memory of my predecessors I have inherited in order to understand this journey.
On The Trace
I communicate with the past through hair as medium.
In the current series called "The Trace" I attempt to explore the origin within me through the images drawn with human hair. The personal, socio-cultural, historical, and biological significance of human hair as identity, its duality of beauty and filth, multiplied by my own interpretation of hair as physical shadow combinedly compose my symbolism in hair.
The objects such as vase, bell, bits of architecture, etc which is repeatedly created in each sub-series are the kinds of entities that gives me a vast sense of resonance. They are based on certain typologies of objects from the past, and often discreetly involve fictional elements. To me, they release human scent and they carry human individuality and presence.
